Fruitful Collaboration on Offshore Wind-to-Hydrogen Plant

HydePoint AS and Billington Process Technology AS (BPT) have entered into a collaboration aimed at developing a tailormade simulation model for offshore wind-to-hydrogen production.

“We are happy to collaborate with BPT, leveraging their extensive 25-year simulation expertise and unique simulator add-on applications to UniSim. Pioneering endeavors like this demand optimization and risk mitigation, and we are confident that simulation activities will precisely deliver that,” expressed Elin Steinsland, CEO at HydePoint. “BPT’s capability to accurately model key equipment like the PEM electrolysis as part of a bigger system, provides undisputed value”.

The simulator will be used for mass and energy balance calculations for the entire plant currently under design by Hydepoint with the overall goal of optimized design and lowering risk.

UniSim Design is used as the basis for the simulation model, with BPT-SimApps extensions seamlessly integrated with UniSim. This includes a fit-for-purpose model of the PEM electrolysis.

About HydePoint

HydePoint will solve the energy transmission needs of future offshore wind farms. HydePoint is a complete solution for receiving, converting, and transmitting the full energy potential from offshore wind farms, with reduced dependence on the onshore power grid. Placed in the ocean, close to wind farms, HydePoint can convert all or part of the energy into hydrogen. This will reduce the need for upscaling the power grid both to and on land. HydePoint is backed by complementary partners with leading capabilities across the offshore wind and power transmission value chain. Moreld contributes with offshore infrastructure solutions, KONGSBERG contributes with power and management systems, and Vergia, founded by Arendals Fossekompani, contributes with competence around renewable energy project development, financing, and market operations.

Billington Process Technology (BPT) is an independent digital solution, simulation and service company with Headquarter outside Oslo, Norway.
